February 2026 — Preparing for SXSW

February was about hardening firmware and meeting artists.

Social Updates

• Find me in NYC for a demo: I've started carrying a Mixfinity tape with me whenever I go out in NYC which has led to more demos with friends (and a few new ones).
• Upcoming album tracks: I've got my first "handshake" to be able to demo songs from a friend's upcoming album on Mixfinity tape at SXSW next month — more details on that soon.
• In The Round at Herald Square: And last for the social updates, my friend Mark Aaron James invited me to a songwriters circle held at Milliron Studios this month. Mark talked up my Mixfinity tape project afterwards over drinks and it was good to get some feedback and enthusiasm from the performing artists. Firmware Updates

• Added MP3 playback pipeline (in addition to other formats like .wav which had been implemented first)
• Contributed an upstream patch to Espressif's USB stack here on Github
• Small tweak to "Previous Track" button behavior: For up to the first 1 second elapsed in any currently playing track, "Previous" button behavior works as expected to rewind to the previous track. After 1 second, this button will just rewind the currently playing track back to the start.

Mechanical Updates

• Partial work on a new circuit board carrier tray to better anchor circuit board in enclosure
• Ordered additional circuit boards boards for SXSW builds in Austin (March 12–18).
• Metallic polyester "album spine" labels designed; waiting to receive quotes from vendors
